Australian Open – Day 3 Wrap
- Updated: January 21, 2015
Three days into the first Grand Slam of the year and my nailbiting has truly moved to the next level! Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova must have read a chapter out of Houdini’s great escapes as they produced remarkable fight-backs in Melbourne.
Sharapova came back from 4-1 down in the deciding set to beat Alexandra Panova while Nadal won the final two sets of his match against Tim Smyczek.
Roger Federer added to the drama as he called for a medical time-out in his match with Simone Bolelli who won the first set.
Federer forgot about the blisters and burst the Italian’s bubble as he won the next three sets to advance to the next round.
South Africans also had two reasons to celebrate as Kevin Anderson who is the 14th seed eased past Ricardas Berankis 6-2, 6-2 & 7-6 while Raven Klaasen and his doubles partner Leander Paes from India beat the American pair of Lipsky & Ram.
The natural is certainly getting value for money in the land down under while the top seeds are already being tested in the early stages.
Question is what will happen on day four?
