Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell

The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell dates back to 1953 where the final was won by Vic Seixas from America who beat Enrique Morea in the final (6-3, 6-4, 22-20). The event forms part of the build-up to the second Grand Slam of the year and is played on clay.

It should come as no surprise to see the name of Rafael Nadal on the honours board as the most successful player in the history of the Tournament as he has captured the title on a record eight occasions.

But it will be Kei Nishikori who will be looking to defend the trophy he received in 2014 after he dispatched of Santiago Giraldo in straight sets.

Nishikori will start the week as the top seed where he will be joined by the likes of Nadal who is seeded second, David Ferrer (3), Marin Cilic (4), Feliciano Lopez (5) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (6).

Spaniards have dominated the event with 22 singles titles with eight time winners Sweden their closest rivals.

I am backing Nadal this week while I also expect a strong showing from the likes of Ferrer who also loves clay.

Should be an interesting week in Spain!
