Challenge Yourself to A Race Like No Other

The 2017 edition of the newly branded GRIT Colin Mayer Tour is fast approaching and even though it’s only in its second year of running, it’s becoming a much sought after mountain bike stage race experience.

After a very successful first year in 2016, organisers are expecting over 250 riders from across the globe when the wheels get turning on 13 October for the 3-day 180 km stage races across Mauritius.

Speaking at the 2017 launch function, GRIT Director, Greg Pearson mentioned, “The fact that we have Mauritian, Reunion, Kenyan and South African participants here today is no coincidence. Nelson Mandela said that sport has the power to change the world and unite people in a way that little else does. Grit’s approach to business is based on collaboration and combining our strengths to achieve extraordinary results.”

A very excited Pearson also added, “We have recently rebranded from Mara Delta Property Fund to Grit Real Estate Income Group and we’re super stoked to launch our new brand as naming rights sponsor of the Grit Colin Mayer Mountain Bike Tour.”

The event which was established to honour the memory of cycling great, Colin Mayer, who died tragically in Moscow at the Junior World Champs in 2009, holds special meaning to the GRIT Director, “For us, the Grit Colin Mayer Mountain Bike Tour provides an excellent platform to extend the metaphor of mountain biking, collaboration and building an African real estate conglomerate.  At the same time, we honour the memory of a good friend and his attitude towards living life.”

The GRIT Colin Mayer Tour will be supporting a local children’s cause, Reve et Espoir and the overall podium prize money stands at 120,000 MUR (Mauritian Rupee).

Covering a vast section of the island’s West Coast region, riders will get to experience parts of Mauritius most regular holidaymakers will never see. Scenic coastal tracks to dense woodlands, breathtaking slopes, traditional salt pans and never-before-ridden game farms are just some of the terrain riders can look forward to over the three days.

Although fast-paced, the race is not just for the top racers but is designed in such a way that both the intermediate riders and “weekend warriors” would enjoy the route from start to finish with great relaxing opportunities in the race-village at Riverland Sports Club. Riders will have access to facilities like the main restaurant, food & drink stalls, bike park and servicing, sports massages, ice baths and a daily video presentation / animation session.

There are two events riders can enter for:

  • Main Event : Team Race (Men/Women/Mixed/Masters/Grand Masters)
  • Solo Event (Men/Women)

A new and improved Day 1 and Day 2 route is being planned and will be revealed soon and both will be over a distance of 65km per day. Day 3 will be slightly shorter but will have much more adrenaline filled single tracks and plenty to feast on for the eyes. It will also be open to everyone and will include a children’s race on the day. Each day will start and finish at the Riverland Sports Club.

Entrants will be able to choose from tented accommodation at the race village, more luxurious facilities through Sun Resorts / Horizon Hotel & apartments including Sun Resorts packages starting from R15, 000 from Johannesburg through World Leisure Holidays.

3 Days, 180 km of pure riding joy. Nothing can beat this kind of experience. The 2017 GRIT Colin Mayer Tour is a race not to be missed.
