Rugby Fanatic Pastor Wins Trip to Rugby World Cup

The winner of Shield and Vaseline’s #1Team1Nation campaign has been announced and with it also the awesome news that has gained exclusive rights to follow Kevin Aldridge and his clan during their trip to Rugby World Cup 2015. Once they return next week Tuesday we will have all the details on their full experience right here on SA’s favourite sports blog.

The lucky winner, Ferndale’s Kevin Aldridge, Pastor at Bryanston Bible Church (BBC), will take his identical twin brother, Andrew Aldridge from Table View, Cape Town, and best friend, Burton Meyer from Parkhurst with him on an all-expenses paid trip to London for the Rugby World Cup after winning the campaign held by Shield and Vaseline’s #1TeamNation over the past couple of months.

“It is a dream come true,” says Kevin. “I have been a passionate rugby supporter and player for most of my life. It is almost a childish thing but there is still an enigma and awe-inspiring presence the Springboks hold for me although most of them are many years younger than me.

“As a young boy I attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, the most prolific rugby school in our nation, who since readmission have delivered by far the most Springboks to date. This had a huge impact on me as far as my passion for the game is concerned and I guess the Springboks represent the dreams and aspirations that I held from then.

“In addition to this, the Springboks of 1995 of course represented the rainbow nation and had an incredible emotional impact on all South Africans.  For a moment we forgot our past and our differences and celebrated the seemingly impossible and most unlikely achievement of the Springboks as one nation.

“This trip is a once in a life time opportunity that I will cherish for many, many years. To watch the Boks live at Twickenham – the home of rugby – is just incredible. To do this with my brother and best mate of 15 years who both share in my passion, loyal support of the Boks and love for our great country that the Boks are representing, is just a dream come true!”

It seems rugby really is in Kevin and Andrew’s blood. The twins played left and right wing respectively throughout their schooling and always dreamt of playing for the Springboks. “An interesting fact is that Australian rugby players, Saia and Anthony Fainga are also twins and to the day they are 10 years younger than my brother and I. We were born on the 2nd of February 1977 and they were born on the 2nd of February 1987,” adds Kevin.

Kevin won this coveted prize by simply purchasing a limited edition Shield and Vaseline Rugby World Cup promotional pack and entering the on-pack competition. He was randomly selected from 6 500 unique entries. This #1Team1Nation campaign, initiated by South Africa’s Number 1 Selling Deodorant & Skin Care brands, Shield and Vaseline, was a drive to get the nation behind The Springboks for the Rugby World Cup 2015 and to solidify our national pride.
