Super Rugga Watch 2018 – Round 12

Can Vodacom Super Rugby Round 12 be the surprise we need to get our Super Rugga Watch back on track and find that elusive GSP point that’s been missing for us over the past 3 weeks.

The fixtures this week aren’t any easier than before with some tough calls awaiting everybody that is playing Superbru.

So let’s cut to the chase immediately.

Friday 4 May 2018 – Chiefs v Jaguares, Rotorua International Stadium – 09h35*

The Jaguares are in their fourth and final week of their Australasian tour and are 3 from 3 against all odds. They face the Chiefs who are one of New Zealand’s wildcard qualifiers for the playoffs at this stage and we are certain that this will be the end of the Argentines run of victories, especially since they have decided to rest their burly front row.

PREDICTION: Chiefs by 12

Friday 4 May 2018 – Rebels v Crusaders, AAMI Park – 11h45*

The Rebels are finally back home after a disastrous tour to the motherland, South Africa and now have a bigger task at hand as they welcome 8-time Super Rugby Champions, the Crusaders to AAMI Park in Melbourne.

Once again we don’t see this match offering much to the table toppers as the homeboys try and shake off their jetlag coming from Africa.

PREDICTION: Crusaders by 15

Sat 5 May 2018 – Hurricanes v Emirates Lions, Westpac Stadium – 09h35*

Well, well…the men from Johannesburg stumbled yet again to a bottom of the table team and now have an even tougher task on their hands as they come up against their arch rivals from New Zealand, the Hurricanes.

This fixture has played a deciding role in both teams’ campaigns over the past two seasons and this one is sure to be another cracker. This will be a tough one to call but as we have backed the Canes most of this season to take top honours, we are going to stick to them for this clash as well.

PREDICTION: Hurricanes by 6

Saturday 5 May 2018 – Waratahs v Blues, Brookvale Oval – 11h45*

Its blue vs blue this Saturday in Sydney on the opposite side of town from the Allianz stadium, as the venue was initially unavailable because the Sydney football club had booked it in case they made the A-league grand final, which they subsequently failed to do. There are suggestions of a late switch to the iconic ground due to the new venue known as the “Field of Screams” already claiming three Manly league players with season-ending ACL injuries, with two similar injuries suffered there last season.

Wherever the game does take place and weather dependant, we’ll see two teams desperately fighting for survival as the season narrows down to the playoffs.

PREDICTION: Waratahs by a sneaky 7

Sat 5 May 2018 – DHL Stormers v Vodacom Bulls, DHL Newlands – 15h05*

North-South derby part 2 is what it’s all about in South Africa on Saturday afternoon as the biggest rivalry in the country meets again this season and this could be telling for either side.

The Vodacom Bulls are smarting from a loss, which most are hailing as game they deserved to have won and lost for all the wrong reasons. The DHL Stormers are on the up after smashing a beleaguered Rebels team at DHL Newlands and need 6 more wins to stand a chance of making the 2018 playoffs or bust.

As tough as this might be to call with the home side going for their 7th consecutive home win over the men from Pretoria, we have to back the form side, which seems to be the Bulls.

PREDICTION: Vodacom Bulls by 7

Sat 5 May 2018 – Cell C Sharks v Highlanders, Jonsson Kings Park –17h15*

The “Sharktank” will be buzzing after the men from Durban had a much needed bye and can only hope for a miracle when they welcome the high flying Highlanders to Jonsson Kings Park this Saturday.

The Landers got away with murder from Loftus and in this competition it’s all that is needed sometimes some would say.

They will want to make sure they leave Africa with at least 8 points, if not 9 on Sunday.

Our recommendation for this game would be the men from Dunedin as the Cell C Sharks have not really convinced us of much improvement since their heroics in the land of the long white cloud.

PREDICTION: Highlanders by 10
