Super Rugga Watch 2018 – Round 14

What a comeback we made in our Vodacom Super Rugby Round 13 SuperBru, almost getting the GSP until a certain Brumbies pulled a “Toyota Cheetahs” on us and lost to the Rebels after leading 21-10 at halftime in Canberra.

This week seems obvious with 2 results hotly debated on social media that could go either way as we look ahead to Round 14 of this year’s tournament.

Strap yourselves in as we dive in…

Friday 18 May 2018 – Hurricanes v Reds, Westpac Stadium – 09h35*

Our nominated tournament winners are only 1 point off the top of the table behind compatriots, the Crusaders and will once again look to topple them this weekend when they face the beleaguered Reds in Wellington this weekend after their mauling at the hands of the Sunwolves a week ago.

This weekend could be even worse if the Reds continue in their current run of form, all though we do believe they will be trying to restore some pride and will front up just a tiny bit and keep the score a little more respectable.

PREDICTION: Hurricanes by 18

Sat 19 May 2018 – Sunwolves v DHL Stormers, Mong Kok Stadium – 07h15*

The Sunwolves are brimming with confidence and will feel they have a chance against a DHL Stormers outfit that are busy losing all hope, in a season that has seen them lose all their away games to date.

The men from the Cape will want to bounce back after losing their first home game of the season against the Chiefs last week and keep their playoff chances alive so to speak.

It’s all or nothing now!

PREDICTION: DHL Stormers by 8

Saturday 19 May 2018 – Blues v Crusaders, Eden Park – 09h35*

The Crusaders have been cutting it fine of late and can consider themselves lucky thanks to a certain Mr O’Keeffe, who along with his fellow match officials missed a crucial moment against the Waratahs a week ago that helped them keep their spot at the top of the table.

The Blues put up a brave fight against the Canes last week and with some injured players returning towards the end of the tournament, could well cause some upsets as we head into the playoffs soon.

Will the Blues make it count this weekend? Not so sure…but we ain’t Nostradamus.

PREDICTION: Crusaders by 8

Saturday 19 May 2018 – Waratahs v Highlanders, Allianz Stadium – 11h45*

The Waratahs are back in Sydney and will want to build on the start they had against the Saders a week ago when they host the Highlanders at Allianz Stadium.

Many of the Tahs’ key players are starting to show the form they are known for and the Landers will need to bring their “A” game if they want to secure the “W”.

This game should make for great watching if both teams pitch up but we do believe the men from Dunedin will sneak it at the death.

Hopefully not with the help of any “outside” assistance…of course.

PREDICTION: Highlanders by 4

Saturday 19 May 2018 – Cell C Sharks v Chiefs, Jonsson Kings Park – 15h05*

So according to media reports the Cell C Sharks are to face a Chiefs team that will be missing 20 of their regulars, which basically says the men from Durban are having a “practice” game this weekend…right?

Anything but!!!

The Sharks will have to be more wary than ever before as the Chiefs have shown earlier this season they are still good enough without most of their regulars when they beat the Blues in a similar scenario.

If the home side can continue their rich vein of form this season against Kiwi opposition, they should be dealing in bonus points this weekend.

PREDICTION: Cell C Sharks by 8

Sat 19 May 2018 – Emirates Lions v Brumbies, Emirates Airline Park –17h15*

The Emirates Lions have returned home and their fans will be happy to see them back, after what some are calling a disastrous tour. They are still leading the South African Conference and will want to capitalise on every home match that is left for them at Emirates Airline Park.

Their opponents this weekend will be hoping that they meet a jetlagged Lions outfit in a match that has been evenly contested in Johannesburg with the visitors edging the “W” column 5 out of 9 away from Canberra. This stat has us a little worried but we have been assured that Swys’ boys will be ready…

PREDICTION: Emirates Lions by 8

Sat 19 May 2018 – Jaguares v Vodacom Bulls, Estadio Jose Amalfitani –21h40*

The Jaguares are welcoming the Vodacom Bulls for only the second time ever to Argentina in a match that has plenty at stake for both.

The Bulls are knocking on the playoffs door and will need to claim a win against a very confident Jags team that are coming off a bye after making history by becoming the first team to win 4 games on an Australasian tour.

The Argentines are brimming with confidence and it will be a tough task for Coach John Mitchell and his men, especially now that the injury ghost has claimed residency in their ranks.

Do the Bulls have the depth to cause an upset? We have our fingers and toes crossed they do (biting tongue).

PREDICTION: Vodacom Bulls by 5
