UNDERDOG – a competitor thought to have little chance of winning a fight or contest.
The recent unexpected win in the 2015 World Cup of Japan against South Africa was the inspiration behind this uncertain, yet exciting trip to our local Roman’s Pizza.
We decided to do some research on the “underdog” of their menu…and had two* winners – or did we? However, are they really seen as underdogs…or just maybe misunderstood pizzas?
Winner 1: Quattro
Mushroom, ham, olives and anchovy.
Winner 2: Fetaroni
Feta cheese, pepperoni and chilli
The mission was on. We had to find out if these two Pizzas were really underdogs, or hidden gems.
We started with the Quattro with its subtle mushroom and ham flavours, and the slightly stronger olive and anchovy flavours exploding into really strange, but definitely memorable flavours. As a lover of something different, it made a definite impression on me and I will surely enjoy the Quattro again and again and again.
The second “contestant” had me a bit scared because of the chilli. I speak of experience when I say sometimes chilli is too chilli. Hesitantly I bit into the first bite, then another, then another, then another, then another. Wow…delicious. The creaminess of the feta, robustness of the pepperoni, with a hint of chilli created a taste sensation that rounded it off as true Mediterranean flavours complementing each other with every bite. I loved the Fetaroni and wished I had bought a large instead of a medium.
These two underdogs are definitely underrated and may surprise you quite pleasantly when you try them during your next visit to Roman’s Pizza.
*Roman’s Pizza give you 2 pizzas for the price of 1, thick or thin base, and this alone makes them winners hands down in all categories.
