Savour The Best at The 2015 Stellenbosch Wine Festival

From 30 January to 1 February 2015, visitors to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival presented by Pick n Pay will again be able to experience the very best of what this popular wine region has to offer – the best wine, the most delicious food, great music and art and the breathtakingly beautiful natural environment of the Boland. The 2015 festival will offer an innovative family friendly format that for the first time will be held at the Coetzenburg grounds, a beautiful new venue that will serve to enhance this already well-known festival.

Pre-festival festivities taking place in central Stellenbosch include a colourful harvest street parade and the traditional blessing of the harvest ceremony, followed by a street festival on Saturday, 24 January.  On Wednesday, 28 January, guests can sit down to an elegant, open-air gala dinner in Plein Street, right in front of the impressive Town Hall for the Longridge Long Table.  American Express® Winery Experiences will run from 24 January to 1 February on various farms and estates in and around Stellenbosch.

The festival will culminate in a three-day wine and lifestyle experience from Friday, 30 January to Sunday, 1 February at the Coetzenburg grounds. Located in a natural amphitheatre, the grounds are surrounded by mountains, a river and oak-lined walkways and couldn’t be a better location in which to enjoy good food and wine – and great entertainment.

Festivalgoers can look forward to being able to taste wines from approximately 100 farms, as well as stroll along the Gourmet Lane where some of the best restaurants in the country will have on offer the culinary specialities that have made Stellenbosch the gourmet capital of South Africa.  There will also be a special tasting room, where guests can enjoy unique food-and-wine pairings presented by leading Stellenbosch winemakers.

For  visitors wanting to experience the joys of grape-stomping, there is the Grape Stomping Ground, where they will find barrel rolling, bottle-opening competitions and, of course, grape stomping!  The little ones can look forward to an authentic farmyard experience with a petting zoo. And what could be better than a sunset concert on a lazy summer evening – an excellent line-up of live performances by local and national artists will be entertaining the crowds.

All the wines available at the festival can be purchased from the Pick n Pay Wine Shop onsite, while Pick n Pay will offer a variety of snacks and beverages, as well as delicious gourmet rolls and hamburgers.

There are a variety of events for outdoor enthusiasts too; including the Momentum Grape Golf Challenge on Thursday, 29 January.  Cycling fans can look forward to the first edition of the Momentum Grape Mountain Bike Ride on Sunday, 1 February.
