Cartrack Cheetahs Golf Day 2017
Thursday 16 February 2016, saw Cartrack and the Toyota Cheetahs host supporters, local corporates and media at the annual Cartrack Cheetahs Golf Day at the Bloemfontein Golf Club.
Cartrack, the associate sponsor to the Cheetahs, brought a team up from Johannesburg to enjoy the day and experience true Bloemfontein hospitality. With one week to the start of Super Rugby 2017, this was the last chance for all to let their hair down before the boys in orange take on the Emirates Lions in the city of roses on 25 February.
We were lucky enough to join in and rub shoulders with the 2016 Currie Cup Champions, their management, fans and sponsors. The day started out with a well organised registration process that included a welcome boerie roll & Twizza along with a jam packed goodie bag.
The Cartrack hole (16th) was the highlight of the field with all golfers getting their four-ball picture taken alongside the winning Currie Cup trophy, Cheetah players and Cheetah cheerleaders. Some of the Cheetahs in attendance were Captain Francois Venter, Springbok forward Oupa Mohoje, Shimlas 2016 captain Reniel Hugo and Cheetah stalwarts Raymon Rhule and Nico Lee to mention a few. Coach Franco Smith and Cheetahs Director of Rugby, Rory Duncan, also got their hands dirty and showed off their golfing skills.

A surprise visit was made by former Springbok David von Hoesslin and funny man David Levinsohn. The tournament however, was rained out which was taken in good spirit as Bloem needed the rain but the die-hard’s continued including former Springbok and Sharks scrumhalf Dave von Hoesslin, who takes his golf pretty seriously. To crown it he landed the joke of the day for playing in 3 Currie Cup Finals, yet never lifting the coveted trophy until this golf day. Nice one Dave!
To mix things up, prize giving was moved to the home of Cheetah rugby, Toyota Stadium, where all golfers had the opportunity of freshening up in the players change room and received a limited edition Cartrack Cheetahs towel to remember the day. The prize giving saw Cheetahs Fullback, Clayton Blommetjies, as master of ceremonies and Kosie Venter, former Transvaal cricketer and uncle to Cheetahs Captain Francois Venter, and his partner Hendrik Cronje, Sports Editor at Rapport, walk away with the main prize.
After all the formalities, guest enjoyed snacks, drinks and good banter in a relaxed but impressive environment. Strangers became friends and all were welcomed into the Cheetah family.
Hats off to Cartrack and the Cheetahs who really made this a memorable day out and we really hope this will not be the last of its kind. Until next year…
