CJ Stander – Ireland’s African Dream

Another great week of rugby with some strong title contention in the Guinness Six Nations to questionable teams winning with conviction in Vodacom Super Rugby. As always our focus is on the Saffas abroad and their efforts in rugga offshore.

This week we focus on the Six Nations and George native, Irish International CJ Stander in his game against Scotland. Although he wasn’t in his preferred number 8 position, Stander made his 39th appearance on the blindside flank, with just as an important job to do.

To make sure that he gets himself into space and creating those opportunities for the ball carriers. Stander was keen to make amends for a terribly disappointing defeat and exit to New Zealand in last year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Stander was the highest rated and best Irish player of the game. Proving how important he is for Ireland, yet again. With a great breakaway run, cleaning up a Henderson snag and saving Ireland not once but twice in the game, with his impeccable ball awareness and handling.

It was a real triumph for him, taking away a tremendous amount of confidence and earning him the Man of the Match award. 14 carries, 18 tackles, 2 important turnovers (including winning a penalty on his own try-line).
