On 21 August 2015 the long awaited movie documentary of Joost van der Westhuizen will be released for the world to see in cinemas around South Africa.
In this gripping 86 minute documentary styled shot movie, Odette Schwegler, co-owner of Blink Pictures, takes the viewer through Joost’s life from his early childhood to his current situation in life where he now tackles Motor Neuron Disease, a crippling disease which has no regard for his past triumphs, fighting for survival, for his family and for others affected by the disease.
Van der Westhuizen is a former Springbok captain and legend who is no stranger to the spotlight. From receiving fame on the rugby field, to his fall from grace amid rumours and deceit, his life has always been public property. This film tells a compelling storye of redemption set against the backdrop of rugby. He shows the viewer that beyond ambition, success and fame lies the true wealth of family and friends, and that within a ravaged body can surge the spirit of a true survivor.
