2020: Bringing Sports To Life
Today is a very auspicious day as we celebrate our 8th anniversary since we launched Africa’s favorite sports website on the 4th of January 2012. Little did we know the roller coaster ride that would follow with its ups and downs over the years. Will we change anything…ummm not really as most of it was ups and the downs taught us alot.
Many people played a role over the years in getting us to this point and it would be a sin to mention them all by name as we are bound to miss a name or two and that would be an injustice to them, so I would like to just say thanks to everyone that know in their hearts the contribution they have made since we launched Africa’s favorite sports website, TheYellowCap.com.
There are however 2 people I do want to thank for sticking it out all the way through all the ups and downs and days I wanted to shut it all down and making me realise the dream is not over.
Firstly I would like to thank my wife, Monique Henning who was the main reason the website came to life and who over the years have spent hours in contributing most of the recipes on the website. In fact, the most read article over the last 8 years across all categories on this website has been her recipe, 100% Pure South African Braai Marinade.
The second person that has had a huge influence in my life and who has played a big role in the website and whom I am proud to officially announce today as my new partner and Marketing Director going forth is none other than Lauren Terras from TerrasComms.
Lauren is an award winning sports publicist who has worked across 7 sporting codes, with rugby being her favorite hands down. She has worked with some of the best teams, tournaments & sporting sponsors in SA & abroad from school level to professional including the Springboks, Blitzboks, Laliga, Currie Cup, Premier Inter-Schools, Varsity Cup & Ram Slam T20 Challenge, ASICS & Canterbury to name a few.
She has also worked closely with numerous Springbok players, present and past and boasts a good repertoire across the sporting spectrum in South Africa and beyond.
This partnership is more a dream come true rather than a business decision and it is one to change the game, something Lauren is very well known for in everything she does.
Along with this announcement I would also like to reveal our new slogan going forward, which is truly the way we envision what we plan to do going forward.
Our new slogan will be #BringingSportsToLife
As mentioned before the website has seen many highs and lows and we would like to look back on just a few of the highs that has kept us motivated over the last 8 years:
2012 – Runner-up SA Blog Awards (Sports category)
2012/13/14 – Raising almost R100 000 single-handed for J9 Foundation
2013 – Winner SA Blog Awards (Sports category)
2013/14 – Runner-up MRP Blog Olympics (Team Jozi)
2015/16/17 – Major sponsorship deal with ASICS South Africa
We’ve had so many highs over the years and we plan to have many more and with these expected highs we know there might be a couple of lows but we believe they will only make us stronger.
We have some exciting ideas which we plan to implement over the next few weeks and months as we continue this journey and we invite anyone and everyone to join us as we plan on #BringingSportsToLife
