Being an athlete comes with an enormous amount of time and effort dedicated to being at the top of your fitness game.
Actress, Anji Woodley is no stranger to this, having actively been involved in fitness and yoga for many years.
Whether you are a serious athlete, or simply looking to get a little fitter this Summer Season, we caught up with Anji, and asked her for her Top 10 fitness and training tips for everyone to enjoy and apply to their own lifestyle.
This is what she had to say…
1 – Find an exercise that works for you! Some people are able to commit themselves to a serious gym session, whereas other may find a yoga session more of a workout! Start on a gradient and move up , don’t go crazy on day one and scare yourself out of exercising for the rest of the year! Do what you are comfortable with and what you ENJOY!
2 – Exercising is fun start walking your dog, (bonus for the both for you!) rollerblading, learning to surf, hiking or trail walks, & more. As long as you’re being active, it benefits you in the long run.
3 – Training Essentials is a must always carry a water bottle and towel with you. No one likes sweaty equipment.
4 – Gear, it’s important to have the right clothing and shoes to exercise in. No slops at gym, avoid slip on shoes (unless you are swimming or doing mat work)
5 – Look at investing in a great pair of trainers. I say invest, because is so vitally important to have the right shoes, whether it’s for crossfit, weight training, running, cycling, hiking etc. You need to have the right kind of shoe for the job! So when you decide what form of exercise then select your shoe. I love my FuzeX Lyte from ASICS because they support my arches (if you go online they have categories for each shoe!) and they have different ranges that are perfectly developed for all types of terrain.
6 – Try not to eat a massive heavy meal before training. I find for me it makes it tough to get started and I feel sick if I push myself, but always have something to eat so you have some sustenance. Be healthy guys!
7 – Stretch!! I know you hear this time and time again, but it’s so important! It gives your body a chance to heal and prep before your workout, it’s like the “pre-awakening”!
8 – Yoga and Pilates… DO IT Man, woman and child. It has so many benefits to name, on a side note I actually grew and extra 2-3cm from doing yoga and Pilates with other training .maybe you’ll grow too!
9 – Warm up, even if it’s 5 min of walking and bring upturn pace to a speed walk on the treadmill, or skipping for 2-5min before, or light squats and jumping jacks. Just a light easy pace no weights. I’m not a personal trainer but I know what works for me so, try things out! Which leads me to the next tip.
10 – If you are at gym and don’t know anything about working out, hire a trainer for a while, start the Pilates / yoga / Zumba /spinning classes on offer as they have the professionals there To help! Not at gym? Find a studio near you there are tons when you start looking. Join a running club or parkruns with some buddies or your partner. Take a picnic on a Sunday and hike to a spot in our area! Just find something and make it a little challenge so at least start .
