Welcome to one of our new offerings of 2019, White Line Fever, where we will highlight what we see as the big events of every weekend and share our thoughts an betting tips with you our faithful readers!

Failing to plan is planning to fail, some clever oke once said. Well, for sport fans it is critical to have a solid strategy in place to ensure you maximise your sport fix – you’ve come to the right dealer to ensure you experience a sporting high from Friday through till Sunday.

Whether it’s mowing the lawn, grocery shopping with the missus, having to do some DIY around the house or entertaining the in-laws there are certain obstacles that get in the way of us sport mad folk getting to spend quite us much time watching sport as we would like (which is as close to 24 hours a day as possible of course). There’s not much I can do to help you overcome these barriers to couch surfing, but I can try and highlight those big sporting events which you just dare not miss. Dodge your responsibilities (i.e. obstacles) accordingly.

SATURDAY

England vs Windies – Cricket (daily from 16:00)

The English cricket team embarked on what promised to be a lovely Caribbean beach holiday a few weeks ago but has since become something resembling a scene from Lord of the Flies. The Poms need to try and save themselves from their stranded position by righting the ship in the third test which starts on Saturday in St. Lucia. Don the slip-slops, bring out the floral shirt and get ready to enjoy some quality test cricket.

Scotland vs Ireland – Rugby (16:45)

Ireland came unstuck against England last weekend and need to find their Kiwi-conquering form if they are to get back on track against the Scots in round 2 of the Six Nations. The kilt wearers are not to be underestimated in this one and it promises to be a mouth-watering affair at Murrayfield. Pick your poison (either an Irish or Scottish whiskey of course) and sit back and enjoy an age-old rivalry. Should the brave Scots be able to pull off the upset you are excused to streak up and down your driveway screaming “they will never take our freeeeedom!”.

SUNDAY

Manchester City vs Chelsea – Soccer (18:00)

The title race is hotting up as the games are getting fewer. Plenty can still happen but now is not the time for either of the front runners to take their foot off the gas. Chelsea would usually prove a tough stumbling block but of late Maurizio Sarri’s side have looked a sorry bunch. The home side should have too much class for the Blues but title stress is a touch tougher to overcome than stage fright at the public stadium urinal during half time. Tune in to see if the Citizens have the testicular fortitude of champions or whether they bottle it in the face of serious pressure.

If the action itself doesn’t quite raise your excitement levels enough then it means you are in need of having a punt to raise the stakes! My favourite bet of the weekend offered by my friends at BETOLIMP is:

A double on Ireland to win the rugby and England to win the cricket test @ 14/10

Enjoy all the sporting action my fellow feverish fans and let’s chat on Twitter #WLF @HDCouchCritic

Just your regular red-blooded South African couch critic who gets madly passionate about sport. I rant, rave, swear, cheer, shout and get absurdly excited when it comes to anything involving a ball, goals and/or a finish line. In short, I have a serious case of white line fever!
