What does boxing day mean for a pure bred South African? Cricket and BRAAI! For 2013, the boxing day tradition will continue with the Proteas standing strong against India in Durban. In order to complete the boxing day tradition, light up the braai and enjoy this mouthwatering BBQ steak recipe.
Makes 2 MAN-SIZED steaks or 4 lady-sized steaks
BBQ STEAK
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic
- 140 ml olive oil
- 140 ml vinegar (your choice of spirit, red wine, white wine, grape or balsamic)
- 140 ml soy sauce
- 15 ml chopped fresh rosemary
- 35 ml Dijon-style prepared mustard
- 10 ml salt
- 5 ml black pepper
- 1 kg good quality rump, t-bone, rib eye or fillet steak
METHOD:
- Place onion, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce, rosemary, mustard, salt, and pepper into the bowl of a food processor or hand blender. Process until smooth.
- Place steak in a large resealable plastic bag.
- Pour marinade over steaks, seal, and refrigerate for about 3 – 6 hours.
- Fire up the braai.
- Discard marinade, and place steak on the prepared grill.
- Braai for 7 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.
